Easy homemade Strawberry Chia Seed Jam using just 5 ingredients. Less sugar than store bought jam and takes no time at all to make!

What to use chia seed jam for?

You can really use this for anything you would store bought jam or jelly.

  • Goes great on toast
  • In a PB&J
  • In a homemade Pop tart or toaster strudel like the ones made here

INGREDIENTS:

  • Frozen berries: I used just frozen strawberries for this recipe but you can also you fresh berries as well. Using blueberries, raspberries, and/or blackberries will work well together or separately as well.
  • Maple Syrup: this helps sweeten the jam but be mindful, depending on time of year the berries may need more or less depending on how sweet they are if they’re in season or not.
  • Vanilla: also adds some sweetness to the jam.
  • Chia seeds: as these absorb moisture, they well thicken to give you a jam-like consistency.
  • Lemon juice: add a bit of acidity to the jam but is optional to add.

Course: Breakfast, sauce
Ingredients Method Notes

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces frozen berries (about 2 cups)
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds
  • ½ tbsp lemon juice

Method

  1. Defrost frozen berries on the counter for about 5 minutes. Break up any big clumps.
  2. Pour berries into a small pot over medium heat. Add in water, maple syrup, and vanilla. Bring to a boil.
  3. Then reduce heat to a low simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally. Mash berries a little bit as you stir to break them up.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in chia seeds and lemon juice. Taste and adjust for preference.
  5. Let sit to thicken until cooled. Stir occasionally to make sure chia seeds are incorporated.

Notes

*Note 1: depending if your berries are in season you may need more or less maple syrup to sweeten them.
**Note 2: For a smoother jam, once it has cooled place in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. See pictures below for texture comparison.
