These juicy Teriyaki Chicken Burgers are topped with homemade teriyaki sauce, grilled pineapple and balsamic caramelized onions.
It’s Memorial Day Weekend which means it’s finally time to fire up the grill! Or in my case the indoor grill since it’s a rainy weekend in nyc. These burgers are the perfect meal to start off grilling season. Made with homemade teriyaki sauce, grilled pineapples and tangy balsamic caramelized onions.
BURGER INGREDITENTS
- ground chicken – sub the ground chicken for turkey or beef if preferred
- homemade teriyaki – although I prefer to make my own to have control over the ingredients, you save some extra by buying pre-made sauce
- balsamic caramelized onions – add a great tangy bite to the burgers
- grilled pineapple
- greens – I used arugula, but your favorite greens could be used as well
- additional toppings: tomato, cheese, avocado

Ingredients
Method
Teriyaki Sauce
- In a small bowl, mix together cornstarch and water. Set aside.
- In a small pot over medium heat, combine all remaining sauce ingredients and whisk together until honey is dissolved. Let simmer about 3 minutes.
- Add in slurry to sauce and continue to cook until sauce thickens. Whisking often, about 3-5 minutes. Turn off heat and set aside.
Balsamic Caramelized Onions
- Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add in sliced onions and butter. Sauté until onions are translucent, about 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add in salt and pepper and continue to sauté for another 5-7 minutes. As liquid begins to leave onions, make sure onions don’t burn or blacken.
- Mix in balsamic vinegar and sauté until vinegar is absorbed by onions, about 2-3 minutes. Then remove from heat and set aside.
Burger Patties + Grilled Pineapple
- Mix all burger ingredients together in a bowl. Divide into four equal patties about ¾-inch thick. Press an indentation in the center of patties and set aside.
- Heat a grill pan over medium-high heat. Place sliced pineapples on pan and let cook until grill marks form, about 3-4 minutes. Then flip over for another 3-4 minutes. Set aside.
- Wipe down grill pan then return it to medium heat. Add burger patties to the pan and let cook for about 5-6 minutes then flip over for another 5-6 minutes. Meanwhile, toast buns if using and prepare any additional toppings of choice.
To assemble,
- Serve the burgers inside buns topped with greens, teriyaki sauce, caramelized onions, and grilled pineapple.
